// About the artist //
Hong Kong new media artist HUNG Keung has been involved in the creative and research aspects of film, video and new media art internationally since 1995. He focuses on exploring human limitations, through interactive and moving digital images the artist ventures into extending these limitations with technology. In his latest installations and performances, Hung Keung further enquires on the intricate relationship between the viewers and these moving images. His works create a dynamic dialogue between time and space, viewers, and the artist’s experimentation with new media art.
HUNG Keung began to explore the new media and interactive art at the turn of the century, and preceded to develop the technological and conceptual aspects of the project Dao Gives Birth to One (2009 – 2012). The latest version of the project is interactive, in which Chinese calligraphies, cockroaches, ladybugs and other shapes projected on the wall crawl incessantly. Entitled Dao x Microcosmic Play and Appreciation (2013), the work is the marriage of the Dao Gives Birth to One project and Microcosmic Play and Appreciation (2013).
Born in 1970 in Kunming, Yunnan province in China, HUNG Keung moved to Hong Kong at the age of three. Before venturing into new media art, HUNG Keung produced numerous award–winning video and interactive art works between the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2005, HUNG Keung founded innov + media lab (imhk lab), which focuses on new media art and design research in relation to Chinese philosophy and interactivity. He is the recipient of the “Prize of Excellence” at the Hong Kong Arts Biennial (2001) and “Achievement Award” as part of the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial Awards (2009–2010).
