Objectives |
By appointing primary and secondary students with an interest in the arts, a willing mind and the spirit to serve as arts ambassadors for their schools, the Arts Ambassadors-in-School Scheme aims to form a new synergy of art to achieve the following objectives:
- To commend efforts in learning and practising the arts, and recognise students who demonstrate excellence in and commitment to the participation and sharing of the arts
- To encourage the active participation and sharing of artistic passion and widen the horizons of the arts ambassadors
- To encourage arts ambassadors to demonstrate their artistic talent and serve the community
Certificate and Activity Allowance |
Certificate
All nominated ambassadors should fulfill the following requirements within the academic year in order to obtain a certificate:
- Promote arts at school as the fulfilment of pledges and being confirmed by the nominating teachers
- Attend two core activities
- Ambassadors who are unable to attend the core activities are required to submit documents to the HKADC Administration Office within one month after the event.
- Leave Application Letter with teacher’s signature and school chop, and
- Arts performance/ exhibition review
Activity Allowance
Ambassadors who are financially in need can apply for the allowance to subsidise travel expenses, admission fees and other expenses for participating in arts activities.
- Eligibility:
- all nominated students from special schools.
- Nominated students who are eligible for "Comprehensive Social Security Assiatance (CSSA) Scheme" or "Working Family Allowance Scheme" (Low-income Working Family Allowance Scheme) can apply for a $500 activity allowance. Eligible students should submit the relevant supporting documents together with the nomination form.
- Students who are solely eligible for School Textbook Assistance Scheme (Full grant/ Half grant), Student Travel Subsidy or Subsidy Scheme for Internet Access Charges are not qualified for the allowance.
- Subsidy will be disbursed by crossed cheque after students have completed the compulsory arts activities and the nominating teacher has confirmed the fulfilment of pledges on promoting arts in school by the end of academic year.
Nominating Procedures |
Open for nomination - November 2022
Registered primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong, including government schools, government subsidised schools, private schools, international schools and special schools, are eligible for participation. Each school is allowed to nominate TWO students to be the arts ambassador.
Method of Nomination and Criteria
The nominated students may be accomplished in either one or more disciplines of the arts: literary arts, music, visual arts, film and media arts, dance, xiqu, drama, according to the following criteria set forth by the HKADC.
The nominees should:
- Possess artistic talent and creativity
- Show active participation in arts activities both inside and outside the school
- Fully utilise artistic creativity and passion to serve people and society
- Take the initiative to promote and share the joy of art
Note: A student, who had been nominated as the arts ambassador before, cannot be nominated again by the same school.
Deadline for nomination – 10 January 2023
The nomination process has gone online starting from this year. The school must input the data and upload the documents via our online system before the deadline.

Confirmation of the ambassadors’ list - February 2023
Each school is allowed to nominate TWO students. Information will be verified by HKADC but no selection exercise will be carried out.

Fabulous arts activitirs - April to August 2023
Ambassadors are required to take part in the following comprehensive arts activities to develop creativity and new perspectives.
Core Activities (Complusory)
- Creative+ Arts Camp
“Creative + Arts Camp” will be held during Easter holiday in 2023. Through workshops of different art forms including visual arts, drama, dance and music, arts ambassadors can experience different types of artistic creations. Arts ambassadors from different schools are encouraged to exchange and create their works through observing the community.
- Youth Arts Week
Youth Arts Week will launch an array of activities including opening ceremony, multi-disciplinary exhibition, online and offline arts workshops during summer holiday, allowing arts ambassadors to experience the joy of arts creation with friends.
Other Activities
- Arts Enhancement Course 2023
To encourage arts ambassadors to participate in different arts activities, a new edition of Arts Training Enhancement Courses will be held between February and July 2023. Please stay tuned with the details announced on the scheme website.
- Arts Buddies (Secondary School Division Only)
Jointly organised by the Education Bureau, Hong Kong Heritage Museum and Hong Kong Arts Development Council, “Arts Buddies” will allow arts ambassadors to gain an in-depth understanding of arts and culture, as well as the works of local artists through a series of arts programmes including arts appreciation course, conservation talk and curation of exhibition workshop.
Conditions of Application |
Participating schools must adhere to all rules and regulations set out by the HKADC:
- Nominees are not required to submit proofs of awards or copies of certificates with their applications;
- All materials submitted are non-returnable;
- The HKADC reserves the right to accept, refuse or reject any nomination and to change the terms and contents of the scheme. The decision of HKADC as to who the awardees are shall be final and binding on all participants.
- School must notify the HKADC in advance, in writing, if the student is unable to attend the activities.
